The district, the origin zone of the Moscato d’Asti, an incredibile 80%, is in the South of Piedmont Region and covers three provincess Alessandria, Asti and Cuneo. The Langhe and Monferrato hill systems are therefore essentially similar. Alongside harrsh winters there are intermediate Seasons with good rainfall, particullary in Autums.
The summer are hot and sultry, caused by the higt rate of atmospheric humidity, but as a rule they are very dry. The composition of the grape is characterised by an ample presence of fixed acid, which is well structured in relation to the percentage of sugar.
On a more particolar point, one must noe that there are microclimates that exist which differ depending on the altitude of the Vineyard.
Ranging from around 150 meters above sea-level in the towns of Cassine and Strevi in the province of Alessandria to 550 meters in Mango, in the province of Cuneo, and stretching to more then 600 meters in the rural town of San Donato in the same borough of Mango.
Moscato d’Asti should be served at a temperature ranging from 9-10 degrees centigrade. Smooth crystal, preferably not engraved, glasses should be chosen, that must only be boblet-shaped.
Asti and Moscato d’Asti can be considered as ideal drink for younger generation and they are becoming popular with salami, cheese and savory snacks too.
